What Is the Highest GPA?
The highest unweighted GPA is usually 4.0. The highest weighted GPA depends on the school: many weighted scales go to 5.0, while some use 6.0 or another maximum.
Unweighted maximum
On a standard 4.0 scale, 4.0 is the maximum. It generally means an A average.
Some colleges use 4.3 for A+, but 4.0 is still the most common maximum for unweighted GPA.
Weighted maximum
Weighted systems add points for advanced classes. A common setup is regular A = 4.0, honors A = 4.5, AP/IB A = 5.0.
Because each school chooses its weighting policy, weighted GPAs are harder to compare directly.
