Pick the Bilkent letter grade and credit units for each course. This gives one semester's GPA — combine semesters for your CGPA (see below). A+ counts as 4.0.

What This GPA Means for You

At Bilkent your CGPA decides academic standing (Satisfactory at 2.00), the Honor and High Honor lists (3.00 / 3.50), and your degree — and a separate AGPA drives your class ranking.

Bilkent-specific read

Bilkent tracks three averages — GPA, CGPA, and AGPA — and A+ is still just 4.0.

Your GPA is one semester, your CGPA is your career (with repeats replacing the old grade), and your AGPA is the all-inclusive average that keeps every attempt and sets your ranking. The calculator above gives your semester GPA on the official scale, where A+ and A both equal 4.0.

  • Use the real Bilkent grade points (A+/A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, and so on).
  • Weight every course by its credit units; heavier courses move the GPA more.
  • Aim for a 2.00 CGPA to stay Satisfactory, 3.00 for Honor, 3.50 for High Honor.

Tip: A+ won't push you past 4.0 — it counts the same as an A.

1

Target the heavy course

Find the highest-credit course below your target grade — that's where the leverage is.

2

Repeat to replace (CGPA)

Repeating a C-, D+, or D course lets the new grade replace the old one in your CGPA.

3

Mind the AGPA

A repeat improves CGPA, but your AGPA keeps both grades — so the first attempt still matters for ranking.

Bilkent GPA: Quick Overview

Bilkent University in Ankara grades on a 4.00 letter-grade scale. Each course's letter grade carries a fixed grade point, and your GPA is the credit-weighted average of those points for one semester. Your CGPA applies the same calculation across your whole programme, and a third figure — the AGPA — keeps every attempt at every course for ranking purposes.

The number governs real outcomes: a 2.00 CGPA keeps you in Satisfactory standing, 3.00 and 3.50 semester GPAs earn the Honor and High Honor lists, and your AGPA sets your rank in the programme. This page mirrors Bilkent's official rules — the exact grade table, the GPA/CGPA/AGPA difference, standing thresholds, and repeat handling — so the figure you get matches your transcript.

B-2.70
C+2.30
C2.00
C-1.70
D+1.30
D1.00
F, FX, FZ0.00

This is Bilkent's official table. A+ and A both equal 4.00, so the highest GPA is exactly 4.00. The three failing grades — F (fail), FX (failed by not meeting course requirements), and FZ (failed for poor attendance/coursework before the final) — all count as 0.00 in your GPA. A grade of C or higher means a course is satisfactorily completed; a C-, D+, or D counts only if your CGPA is 2.00 or higher.

GPA vs CGPA vs AGPA at Bilkent

Bilkent is one of the few universities that reports three averages, and the difference matters:

  • GPA (semester): the credit-weighted average of your grade points for a single semester — what the calculator above gives, and what the Honor / High Honor lists use.
  • CGPA (cumulative): the same average across your whole programme. When you repeat a course, the new grade replaces the old one here. This is the figure for standing and graduation.
  • AGPA (all-inclusive): calculated exactly like the CGPA, but the new grade of a repeated course does not replace the old one — both attempts stay in. Your AGPA is what Bilkent uses to rank students in the programme.
GPA = sum( grade point × credits ) ÷ total credits

So a strategic repeat can lift your CGPA while your AGPA barely moves — great for standing and graduation, less so for ranking. To combine semesters into your CGPA from their GPAs and credits, use the Cumulative GPA Calculator.

Academic Standing, Honor & High Honor

Bilkent sets your standing by your cumulative CGPA:

  1. Satisfactory — CGPA 2.00 or higher. Good standing.
  2. Probation — CGPA 1.80–1.99. You continue with restrictions and should repeat weak courses.
  3. Unsatisfactory — CGPA below 1.80, which triggers tighter limits and recovery requirements.

Recognition is based on your semester GPA (with a minimum course load and a CGPA of at least 2.00):

  • Honor list — semester GPA 3.00–3.49.
  • High Honor list — semester GPA 3.50 or above.

And for class ranking, Bilkent uses the all-inclusive AGPA — a citation as a top-ranked student generally needs an AGPA of 3.00 or greater.

A Worked Bilkent GPA Example

CalculusA44.0016.0
PhysicsA-43.7014.8
Intro to ProgrammingB+33.309.9
EnglishB33.009.0
Total1449.7

GPA = 49.7 quality points / 14 credits = 3.55 — a High Honor semester. Lifting the 4-credit Physics from A- to A adds 1.2 quality points (GPA → 3.64), while the same step on a 3-credit course adds only 0.9 — the heavy course is the better lever.

What Counts as a Good GPA at Bilkent?

  • 3.50+ — excellent. High Honor territory and competitive for scholarships, exchange, graduate study, and top employers.
  • 3.00–3.49 — strong. The Honor list, and comfortable for most opportunities.
  • 2.50–2.99 — solid and well clear of standing trouble.
  • 2.00–2.49 — passing and Satisfactory, but with little cushion.
  • Below 2.00 — probation or unsatisfactory; focus on heavy courses and repeating any C-, D+, or D.

Because Bilkent reports the CGPA to two decimals, even a small move can cross an honor or standing line — use the planner above to find the cheapest grade that gets you there.

How to Calculate Your Bilkent GPA (Step by Step)

In short: your Bilkent GPA is the credit-weighted average of your grade points on the 4.0 scale. The full method, the same one the calculator above uses:

  1. Convert each grade to its point — A+ and A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F/FX/FZ = 0.
  2. Multiply by the course's credit units (an A in a 4-credit course is 4.0 × 4 = 16 quality points).
  3. Add the quality points from every course in the semester.
  4. Divide by the total credits to get your semester GPA.
  5. For your CGPA, repeat across all semesters — total all quality points and divide by all credits (repeats replace the old grade; your AGPA keeps both).

Common Bilkent GPA Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

  • Treating A+ as higher than A. Both equal 4.00 — A+ cannot push your GPA above a perfect 4.0.
  • Confusing CGPA with AGPA. Repeats replace the old grade in your CGPA but stay in your AGPA, which is what sets your ranking.
  • Leaving out FX or FZ. All three failing grades (F, FX, FZ) count as 0.00 and drag your GPA — include them.
  • Forgetting to weight by credits. A 4-credit course counts more than a 1-credit one; enter each course's real credit value.
  • Averaging semester GPAs for your CGPA. CGPA is credit-weighted across all courses, not a plain mean of semester GPAs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated at Bilkent University?

Multiply each course's grade point (A+/A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on down to F = 0) by its credit units, add the results, then divide by total credits. That gives one semester's GPA; CGPA uses the same method across your whole programme.

What is the Bilkent grading scale?

A 4.0 letter scale: A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, and F/FX/FZ = 0.0. A+ and A both equal 4.0, so the maximum GPA is 4.00.

What is the difference between CGPA and AGPA at Bilkent?

Both are cumulative. In your CGPA, repeating a course replaces the old grade with the new one. In your AGPA (all-inclusive), both the original and the repeated grade stay in. Bilkent uses the AGPA to rank students in the programme.

Does an A+ count more than an A at Bilkent?

No. A+ and A both carry 4.00 grade points. The A+ recognises outstanding work on the transcript but does not raise your GPA above 4.00.

What GPA do you need for the Honor list at Bilkent?

A semester GPA of 3.00–3.49 earns the Honor list, and 3.50 or above earns the High Honor list, provided you meet the minimum course load and have a CGPA of at least 2.00.

What CGPA keeps you in good standing at Bilkent?

A CGPA of 2.00 or higher is Satisfactory standing. A CGPA of 1.80–1.99 is probation, and below 1.80 is unsatisfactory.

Is this Bilkent GPA calculator official?

No. It is a free, independent estimator built from Bilkent's published grading rules. Your official GPA, CGPA, and AGPA come from the university's records and your transcript (STARS).
