COMSATS GPA Calculator

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) has campuses including Islamabad, Lahore, Abbottabad, Wah, Attock, Sahiwal, and Vehari. For GPA, the important part is not the campus name; it is the grading policy. CUI adopted the HEC grading criteria across the CUI system for students admitted from Fall 2021 onward, so the same current grade-point table applies whether you are calculating a semester from Islamabad, Lahore, Wah, Abbottabad, or another campus.

The student pain point is obvious from COMSATS forums: people are not only asking "what is my GPA?" They are asking whether COMSATS uses absolute or relative grading, whether maintaining 3.0+ is realistic, how a failed course affects standing, and whether a 3.5+ CGPA is strong enough for scholarships, MS, or abroad. This page is built around those decisions, not just a bare number.

COMSATS GPA is a credit-weighted average. Each course creates quality points by multiplying its grade point by its credit hours. Add all quality points, then divide by total credit hours.

CGPA uses the same logic across all completed semesters. That means CGPA is not always the simple average of semester GPAs. A 20-credit semester has more weight than a 15-credit semester, so always combine using credit hours.

Your CU Online result card shows two numbers, and students mix them up constantly:

• SGPA (Semester GPA) — the credit-weighted GPA of one semester. This calculator gives you exactly this when you enter a single term.
• CGPA (Cumulative GPA) — every graded course across all your semesters, again credit-weighted. It is not the plain average of your SGPAs unless every semester carried the same credit hours.

The practical consequence is momentum: once you have 60–70 credits behind you, a single strong or weak semester barely moves the CGPA, because the new credits are small next to the pile you already have. That's why a rough first year is hard to fully erase later — and why protecting your CGPA early matters more than students expect. COMSATS ties continuation directly to your CGPA, and the rule that catches students is the second-probation dismissal:

• Good standing — a CGPA of 2.00 or higher.
• Probation — if your CGPA falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester, you are placed on academic probation.
• Dismissal — a student already on probation who earns a second successive probation (CGPA still below 2.00 the next semester) is automatically dropped from the programme.

Two more numbers worth burning in: the minimum passing grade in a course is C (2.00, ~60%) — anything below must be repeated — and the minimum CGPA to graduate is 2.00. If you're sitting near 2.0, prioritise the highest-credit course you can still pull up; that single course shifts your CGPA the most.

On the upside, COMSATS rewards strong semesters and gives you a route to fix weak grades:

• Dean's Honour List — awarded for an outstanding semester, typically an SGPA of 3.50 or above on a full course load. It's the recognition scholarship and MS committees notice.
• Grade improvement / repeat — you can repeat a course to improve a low grade, and the improved grade replaces the old one in your CGPA. A failed (F) course must be repeated. Eligibility (which grades qualify) and any limit on improvement attempts are set by your campus examination office — confirm before you plan around it.
