Use the letter grades shown in CU Online/result card and the credit hours for each course. This estimates one semester GPA; your official transcript remains final.

What This GPA Means for You

For COMSATS students, the number is not just "good" or "bad". It decides comfort above probation, scholarship confidence, MS/abroad filters, and how much pressure your next semester carries.

COMSATS-specific read

The biggest mistake is using an old or generic COMSATS scale.

CUI adopted the HEC grading criteria for students admitted from Fall 2021 onward. That means the current calculator uses A = 4.00 at 85+, A- = 3.66 for 80-84, B+ = 3.33 for 75-79, and D = 1.00 for 50-53. Some older pages still mention older tables, so if you joined before Fall 2021, check your result card or examination office before trusting any online conversion.

  • Use GPA for one semester: current courses only.
  • Use CGPA for standing: all completed courses weighted by credit hours.
  • Use CU Online/transcript as final: this page is a planning tool, not an official record.

Quick COMSATS signals

3.50+
Strong for MS/abroad

Students often aim here for scholarships, exchange, and competitive graduate applications.

3.00+
Comfort zone

Usually a solid academic record if your skills/projects are also moving.

2.00
Probation line

Undergraduate standing is commonly discussed around the 2.00 CGPA line.

How to Raise This COMSATS GPA Fastest

The fastest improvement usually comes from the highest-credit course where one grade step is still realistic. A 4-credit course can save or sink the semester.

Tip: protect quizzes, assignments, mids, and lab work early. With absolute grading, every mark before finals can decide whether you land B, B+, or A-.

1

Fix the heavy course first

If Data Structures is 4 credit hours and English is 2, the same grade jump in Data Structures moves GPA twice as much.

2

Do not wait for finals

COMSATS students repeatedly complain that consistency in assignments, labs, mids, and sessional marks matters more than a miracle final.

3

Plan around CGPA, not ego

If your CGPA is near 2.00, preventing a D/F in one major course is more valuable than chasing a perfect A elsewhere.

COMSATS University GPA: Quick Overview

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) has campuses including Islamabad, Lahore, Abbottabad, Wah, Attock, Sahiwal, and Vehari. For GPA, the important part is not the campus name; it is the grading policy. CUI adopted the HEC grading criteria across the CUI system for students admitted from Fall 2021 onward, so the same current grade-point table applies whether you are calculating a semester from Islamabad, Lahore, Wah, Abbottabad, or another campus.

The student pain point is obvious from COMSATS forums: people are not only asking "what is my GPA?" They are asking whether COMSATS uses absolute or relative grading, whether maintaining 3.0+ is realistic, how a failed course affects standing, and whether a 3.5+ CGPA is strong enough for scholarships, MS, or abroad. This page is built around those decisions, not just a bare number.

How COMSATS GPA Is Calculated

COMSATS GPA is a credit-weighted average. Each course creates quality points by multiplying its grade point by its credit hours. Add all quality points, then divide by total credit hours.

GPA = sum( grade points x credit hours ) / total credit hours

CGPA uses the same logic across all completed semesters. That means CGPA is not always the simple average of semester GPAs. A 20-credit semester has more weight than a 15-credit semester, so always combine using credit hours.

Worked COMSATS GPA Example

CourseGradeCreditsPointsQuality points
Data StructuresA-43.6614.64
CalculusB+33.339.99
EnglishA24.008.00
Islamic StudiesB23.006.00
Total-11-38.63

GPA = 38.63 / 11 = 3.51. If Data Structures drops from A- to B+, the GPA becomes 3.39. That one 4-credit course moves the semester by about 0.12.

SGPA vs CGPA at COMSATS

Your CU Online result card shows two numbers, and students mix them up constantly:

  • SGPA (Semester GPA) — the credit-weighted GPA of one semester. This calculator gives you exactly this when you enter a single term.
  • CGPA (Cumulative GPA) — every graded course across all your semesters, again credit-weighted. It is not the plain average of your SGPAs unless every semester carried the same credit hours.

The practical consequence is momentum: once you have 60–70 credits behind you, a single strong or weak semester barely moves the CGPA, because the new credits are small next to the pile you already have. That's why a rough first year is hard to fully erase later — and why protecting your CGPA early matters more than students expect. To roll a new semester into your existing CGPA, use the cumulative GPA calculator.

Where Your COMSATS CGPA Lands

Every COMSATS milestone on one 4.0 ruler — from the probation line to Dean's-List territory.

Probation / graduation line
2.00
Acceptable for most jobs
2.50
Good, comfortable record
3.00
Dean's List & MS / abroad strength
3.50
Perfect
4.00

Bars are scaled to the 4.0 maximum. Below 2.00 is probation; 3.50+ is the band that keeps scholarships and graduate-school options open. A CGPA above 3.0 is the practical "comfortable" zone most COMSATS students aim to hold.

Worked CGPA Example (Two Semesters)

CGPA is credit-weighted, so the semester with more credit hours pulls harder — it's not a simple average of your SGPAs.

SemesterSGPACredit hoursQuality points (SGPA × CH)
Semester 12.801953.2
Semester 23.801245.6
Total3198.8

CGPA = 98.8 ÷ 31 = 3.19. A plain average of the two SGPAs would be 3.30 — but because the weaker semester carried more credits (19 vs 12), the real CGPA lands lower at 3.19. This is exactly why a heavy, low-GPA semester is so hard to outrun later, and why the cumulative GPA calculator uses credit hours, not a simple mean.

Academic Standing: Warning, Probation & Relegation

COMSATS ties continuation directly to your CGPA, and the rule that catches students is the second-probation dismissal:

  • Good standing — a CGPA of 2.00 or higher.
  • Probation — if your CGPA falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester, you are placed on academic probation.
  • Dismissal — a student already on probation who earns a second successive probation (CGPA still below 2.00 the next semester) is automatically dropped from the programme.

Two more numbers worth burning in: the minimum passing grade in a course is C (2.00, ~60%) — anything below must be repeated — and the minimum CGPA to graduate is 2.00. If you're sitting near 2.0, prioritise the highest-credit course you can still pull up; that single course shifts your CGPA the most.

Dean's Honour List & Grade Improvement

On the upside, COMSATS rewards strong semesters and gives you a route to fix weak grades:

  • Dean's Honour List — awarded for an outstanding semester, typically an SGPA of 3.50 or above on a full course load. It's the recognition scholarship and MS committees notice.
  • Grade improvement / repeat — you can repeat a course to improve a low grade, and the improved grade replaces the old one in your CGPA. A failed (F) course must be repeated. Eligibility (which grades qualify) and any limit on improvement attempts are set by your campus examination office — confirm before you plan around it.

When you model a retake here, enter only the new grade to see the replaced-CGPA effect.

Sources Used for This COMSATS Calculator

This calculator is based on official COMSATS/CUI grading documents and student-intent research. The key official source is the CUI grading notification adopting the HEC grading criteria from Fall 2021 admissions, plus the Graduate Handbook table that lists fixed points from A through F.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this COMSATS GPA calculator using the official scale?

It uses the current Fall 2021+ CUI/HEC-aligned grading table published by COMSATS documents: A = 4.00 at 85+, A- = 3.66, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, down to D = 1.00 and F = 0.00. Your official GPA still comes from CU Online, your result card, and transcript.

Does COMSATS use absolute or relative grading?

The official grade table is absolute: marks map to letter grades and grade points. In practice, students may still feel teacher/course difficulty strongly, but the published GPA conversion is based on fixed marks ranges, not a pure class curve.

What is a good GPA at COMSATS?

A 3.0+ GPA is generally a comfortable student record. A 3.5+ GPA is strong and better for scholarships, MS, abroad, and competitive filters. Below 2.0 is the danger zone students usually associate with probation, so if you are near that line, focus on high-credit courses first.

How do I calculate COMSATS CGPA?

Multiply each course grade point by its credit hours across all semesters, add those quality points, and divide by total credit hours. Do not simply average semester GPAs unless every semester has the same credits.

Why do some COMSATS calculators show different grade points?

COMSATS grading has changed over time, and some pages mix old tables, generic HEC ranges, or rounded values. This page uses the Fall 2021+ fixed points shown in current CUI documents. Older-batch students should confirm their exact scale with their official record.

Does a failed course count in COMSATS GPA?

An F carries 0.00 grade points and can seriously lower GPA, especially in a high-credit course. Repeat/improvement treatment should be confirmed with your campus examination office because transcript handling and current academic rules matter.

Is 3.5 CGPA good at COMSATS?

Yes. A 3.5 CGPA is a strong COMSATS record for most practical purposes. It is usually strong enough to keep MS/abroad options open, but students in CS and engineering should still build projects, internships, and skills alongside GPA.

What CGPA do you need to avoid probation at COMSATS?

A CGPA of 2.00 or higher. If your CGPA falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester, you are placed on academic probation. It is also the minimum CGPA required to graduate.

What happens after a second probation at COMSATS?

A student already on probation who earns a second successive probation (CGPA still below 2.00 the next semester) is automatically dropped from the programme. Clearing probation means pulling your CGPA back to 2.00 in the very next semester.

What is the minimum passing grade at COMSATS?

C, worth 2.00 grade points (about 60% marks). A grade below C in a required course generally has to be repeated. F (below 50%) carries 0.00 and must be repeated.

Can I improve a grade at COMSATS?

Yes — you can repeat a course to improve a low grade, and the improved grade replaces the old one in your CGPA. Which grades qualify and any cap on improvement attempts are set by your campus examination office, so confirm the current rule before relying on it.

What is the Dean's Honour List at COMSATS?

It recognises an outstanding semester, typically an SGPA of 3.50 or above on a full course load. It's a per-semester honour that strengthens scholarship, MS, and abroad applications.

Is this calculator official or affiliated with COMSATS?

No. KnowMyGPA is independent. This page is an unofficial planning calculator based on public COMSATS documents. Always use CU Online, your result card, and the examination office as the final source.
