Privacy Policy

KnowMyGPA ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at knowmygpa.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you use our calculators and how it is handled. By using the site, you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The grades, credits, and numbers you type are processed on your device and are never sent to or stored on our servers. We do not require accounts, and we do not ask for your name, email, or any personal details to use the tools.

Information we collect

We do not directly collect personal information. We do, however, use third-party services that automatically collect limited, non-identifying technical data to help us understand traffic and to display ads:

  • Usage data — pages visited, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, and referring site, gathered through analytics.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — small files (and pixels, also called "web beacons" or "clear gifs") stored or read by your browser, used by the services below to measure traffic and serve ads.

One first-party value we store on your device is a small preference for light or dark mode. It stays in your browser's local storage, is not a tracking cookie, and is never transmitted anywhere.

Server and log data

Like virtually all websites, our hosting and content-delivery provider automatically records standard request logs - such as your IP address, browser type and version, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the request - for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. This log data is not used to personally identify you and is retained only for a short period under the provider's own schedule.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes usage data on our behalf. We do not collect personally identifiable information through it. You can learn more in Google's Privacy Policy, and you can opt out across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to see how the site is used through metrics such as clicks, scrolling, and aggregated session replays, which helps us find and fix usability problems. Clarity captures this behavioral data using cookies and similar technologies; we do not use it to identify you personally. Microsoft may use the data it collects as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. For more detail, see how Microsoft Clarity works.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We display ads through Google AdSense on our content pages (calculators, guides, and blog posts) to keep the site free. Here is how that works and how you can control it:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies - including the DoubleClick DART cookie - enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Where these cookies are used, ad partners may also use web beacons to measure the performance of ads. We do not have access to or control over the cookies these third parties use.
  • You can review how Google uses information from sites that use its services on Google's "How Google uses information" page, and learn about Google's advertising cookies and your controls at Google Advertising & Privacy.

How to opt out of personalised ads. You can turn off personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of many other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out and at aboutads.info/choices (Digital Advertising Alliance), or - in Europe - at Your Online Choices. Opting out does not remove ads; it means the ads you see may be less relevant to you.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland, or another region with similar laws, our ad partners request the consent those laws require before using cookies for personalised advertising. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time through the consent controls shown to you or through your browser settings.

Cookies and storage we use

Here is a plain-language summary of what is stored in your browser when you visit:

Set byPurposeType
KnowMyGPARemembers your light / dark mode choiceFirst-party local storage (not a tracking cookie)
Google AnalyticsAnonymous traffic and usage measurementAnalytics cookies (e.g. _ga)
Microsoft ClarityAggregated click, scroll, and session-replay metricsAnalytics cookies
Google AdSenseServing and (where permitted) personalising adsAdvertising cookies

The calculators themselves set no cookies — the only first-party value we keep is your theme preference, and it never leaves your device. You can clear or block any of these through your browser settings at any time.

Data retention

Because your grades and calculator inputs are processed entirely in your browser, we hold nothing about your calculations — there is no server-side copy to retain or delete. The only data that persists is the anonymous, aggregated usage data held by our analytics providers under their own retention schedules (Google Analytics typically retains user-level data for up to 14 months, and Microsoft Clarity for up to one year), after which it is automatically deleted or anonymised.

How information is used

The limited data collected is used only to operate and improve the site, measure traffic, and display relevant advertising. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not combine analytics data with any attempt to personally identify you.

Your privacy rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights over your personal data:

  • EU / UK (GDPR): the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your data, and the right to data portability. Where we rely on consent (for example, personalised-ad cookies in the EEA/UK), you can withdraw it at any time through the consent prompt or your browser settings.
  • California (CCPA/CPRA): the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information.

Because we do not hold an account or any directly identifying information about you, most data is controlled at the provider level — use the Google and Microsoft opt-out links above, or email us and we'll help you exercise any of these rights.

International visitors

KnowMyGPA is available worldwide, and our analytics and advertising providers (Google and Microsoft) may process the limited technical data they collect on servers located in the United States and other countries. By using the site, you understand that this data may be transferred to and processed in countries with data-protection laws different from your own; these providers use standard safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no industry-standard way to interpret DNT, so we do not respond to it differently. To limit tracking, use the analytics and advertising opt-out tools linked above or your browser's cookie controls.

Children's privacy

Our tools are intended for a general student audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your choices

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can use the opt-out links above to limit personalised advertising and analytics. Blocking cookies will not affect your ability to use the calculators, since they run locally.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
